Admission Information

Any student interested in admission to a Program in the Department of Life Sciences should explore the websites for the Department and the Program (and, perhaps, related websites in other Departments).

The Office of Admissions and Records provides the information, links and forms necessary for any student (transient, non-degree-seeking, transfer, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate) to apply for admission to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Potential students and other interested individuals are invited to visit the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Campus in person.

Undergraduate Admission:

Requirements for undergraduate admission are straightforward and can be obtained through the Office of Admissions and Records, along with necessary application forms (or links to these forms).

Undergraduate students in the life sciences should be aware that majors in Biology or Biomedical Sciences are compatible with the Honors Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

There are additional requirements for international students applying for undergraduate admission. Such students should consult the Office of Admissions and Records, International Students for more information.

Graduate Admission:

Note: Because the Marine Biology (Ph.D.) Program is new and still in development, potential students should contact Dr. Greg Stunz for the latest application procedures.

Potential graduate students should consult the Office of Graduate Studies (as well as the Office of Admissions and Records) for admission information. Students planning to apply should review the graduate student enrollment classifications and admission criteria. Admission to a graduate program is a two-step process:

Step 1—University Requirements: Students must fulfill the University's eligibility requirements and be admitted to graduate studies. Basically, these requirements state that the Office of Graduate Studies must receive the completed application form, the application fee, and official transcripts (there are additional requirements for international students, see below). Step 2—Program Requirements: In addition to the University requirements described above, individual graduate degree programs may have higher or alternate requirements. Students must fulfill the individual graduate program's requirements to be admitted into a specific graduate program. Each of the graduate programs in the Department of Life Sciences (Biology, Mariculture) requires the students to submit:
- Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
- Three (3) letters of reference

In addition, students are strongly encouraged to contact faculty members in their area of interest and communicate directly with them. If possible, a student should visit the campus and meet with faculty personally. All potential students may communicate with faculty by telephone calls or e-mail conversations. Important Note for ALL Prospective Graduate Students: Please arrange to have all application forms and other documents sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. (In other words, DO NOT send application forms or other documents to the Department of Life Sciences or to its individual programs.) Submitting forms on-line automatically directs them to the Office of Graduate Studies. For documents that must be mailed, the appropriate address is:

Graduate Admission for International Students:

Additional documents are required from international students who are seeking admission to graduate programs:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (unless the student has earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States.) A minimum paper-based score of 550, or the equivalent computer-based score of 213, is required.
Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. (Also a requirement for all students seeking admission to LSCI Graduate Programs.)
Notarized Affidavit of Support (or I-34 form) certifying ability to finance study in the U.S.
Copies of transcripts and diplomas from international colleges and universities (in addition to transcripts from U.S. Colleges and Universities).
Evaluation of international credentials, course work, transcripts and diplomas by an Approved Agency.
Copy of current visa (for international applicants residing in the U.S.).
