Scientific Diving for Research or Instruction

All faculty, staff and students who plan to participate in scientific diving at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi must comply with all university guidelines (see link below). Divers submit paperwork to the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Diving Control Board Member who represents the unit for which he or she will be diving. The Diving Control Board will then submit the paperwork to the Diving Safety Officer (DSO); the Assistant DSO keeps all diving records and forms.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Diving Safety Officer (DSO), Interim:

  • Dr. John W. (Wes) Tunnell, Jr.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Diving Control Board Members:

  • Mr. Gary Haralson, Assistant DSO (Units: Center for Coastal Studies and Harte Research Institute)
  • Dr. Kevin Strychar (Unit: College of Science & Technology)
  • Mr. John Adams (Unit: Conrad Blucher Institute)

General Forms: All three general forms must be completed and filed with the DSO before a person can officially dive on university research/contract work:

Dive Plan and Dive Log Form: Once all three general forms are submitted and the prospective diver is checked out according to the Guidelines, he or she must complete the following:

  • Dive Plan stating the location, date and purpose of each dive or expedition (dive trip). This should be submitted (prior to the event) by an individual or a group to cover a single dive or an expedition.
  • Dive Log Form (pdf): logs all dives. (The Dive Log Forms are filled out after each individual dive by every individual diver, and must be returned to the DSO upon completion of each trip.)
