Outreach Programs


Laguna Madre Field Station

The facility provides research and monitoring laboratory space to students, agencies and research organizations for data collection; and facilitates and expedites data analysis critical in monitoring ecological and biological changes along the central and lower Texas coast and similar ecosystems. Through its field instruction and educational programs, the facility also develops and strengthens public awareness and appreciation of the "field experience."

National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB)

A quiz bowl competition for high school students.

Summer Undergraduate Research Focus (SURF)

A Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program supported by a partnership between the National Science Foundation and the Department of Defense. It provides funding for undergraduate students from other institutions to spend a summer at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi working on research projects with faculty from the College of Science and Technology.

Ruth O'Brien Herbarium

This facility collects, preserves and identifies native plant specimens from South Texas (especially the Texas Coastal Bend). The curated collection is a repository for both common and unique plants of the region, and includes floral specimens from the 367,000 acre Galvan Ranch in Webb County (a site now closed to the public).

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi/USDA Summer Aquaculture Program

A six-week program for area high school students to enhance interests in mariculture/coastal issues. Contact: Dr. David McKee
