About the Biology Program

The Biology Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi awards the degrees Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Science degree in Biology. The program provides students with a broad overview of biology while offering the opportunity to pursue specialized knowledge in a specific career area.

The undergraduate program is designed to prepare students for post-graduate, graduate or professional study and/or for careers in government, industry, or academia. The undergraduate biology curriculum also includes content courses required for students preparing to earn certification for teaching life sciences at the grades 8-12 level.

The biology program provides hands-on training in diverse areas of the biological sciences. Field and laboratory courses emphasize the development of practical skills in using special materials and equipment. The focus is on enhancement of critical thinking skills which will prepare the student for careers in the biological sciences or medical, dental and allied fields as well as in other general areas of employment. In addition, our program is designed to serve science students in other fields who are interested in adding to their knowledge of biological systems and processes. Our courses also attract interested non-science students.

Students acquire content and skills to enter a variety of biology-related careers such as research, marine biology, wildlife and coastal management, environmental protection, laboratory technician, biotechnology industry, medical or environmental microbiology, technical writing and pharmaceutical sales.
