Semester-by-Semester Schedule for the
Internship (Non-Thesis) Option

Completing the Mariculture Program After Applying? and Being Admitted to the University and Program

1st Semester

  1. Course leveling, if necessary
  2. Define area of interest (e.g., shrimp nutrition, pond water quality, intensive finfish culture, etc.)
  3. Choose academic option (Research (Thesis) Option or Internship (Non-Thesis) Option).
  4. Develop Degree Plan

2nd Semester

  1. Identify specific internship interest (e.g., finfish larviculture at U.T./F.A.M.L.)
  2. Meet with prospective cooperators (private, public sector)
  3. Select two cooperators
  4. Acceptance by cooperators
  5. Select Graduate Committee
  6. Complete internship agreement form (short proposal, requires registration for 3 hrs. of MARI-5399)

Remaining Semesters

  1. Internship I (10-20 hrs/wk) for one semester (species 1/species 2; requires registration for 3 sem. hrs. of MARI-5399)
  2. Internship II (10-20 hrs/wk) for one semester (species 2/species 1; requires registration for 3 sem. hrs. of MARI-5399)
  3. Prepare Professional Paper (from Internship I or II)
  4. Submit Professional Paper first draft to Chair of Graduate Committee
  5. Correct editorial comments as per Chair, re-submit to Chair
  6. Submit edited version of Professional Paper to other Members of Graduate Research Committee
  7. Apply for Graduation (must be completed within deadline as specified in Schedule of Classes for the semester in which you are graduating)
  8. Seminar presentation (final semester, open to public, requires registration for MARI-5102)
  9. Oral examination (final semester, attended by Graduate Research Committee)
  10. Acceptance of Professional Paper (upon passing seminar presentation and oral examination, requires signatures of Graduate Committee Members)
  11. Completion of written Exit Exam (currently does not determine graduation, for Program use only)

Final step is Graduation (you made it!!!)
